The science of being "exceptional" in any way at all...

Last night I watched an episode of Forensic Files in which the defense actually argued brain differences in a serial child molester/murderer. The jury rejected the science. The scientist predicted that we are entering an era of linking aberrant behaviour to brain science. (Those who read my rantings will remember my comments about Russel Williams in this regard.) Unfortunately, we (and our legal system) are so thoroughly steeped in believing in "free will" that we refuse to accept the facts before us. Eventually science will link all "exceptional" traits to neurology (and chemistry, perhaps), but our bureaucracies will deny the facts... just a they do in education. If we were willing to accept scientific findings more readily, we would be much further ahead in considering what to do about them in the very early years.
